Bayley is Now the Mega Star of NXT (Video Inside)

Bayley proved to everyone that she was the mega star of WWE NXT TakeOver: London yesterday. I know it sounds crazy, but I will make my argument and tell you wrestling fans why.

Going into last night’s event, the talk was about Finn Balor defending his NXT Championship against Samoa Joe. The feud had been built since the fall, and it was the main seller of the NXT TakeOver special for the past few weeks. Everyone was looking forward to the match. When you think of a mega star, you think it’s going to be a male. In WWE’s history, not a single woman has been a mega star. Not even Miss Elizabeth, Wendi Richter, Trish Stratus, and Lita. Speaking of NXT, Balor has been the face of the company since making his debut. Balor goes into 2016 holding the NXT Championship for six months and main-eventing two NXT TakeOver specials. While I talk about the former Prince Devitt being the mega star, Bayley has to go in there as another mega star Just look at the video via Twitter from the NXT Tour.

Then last night, Bayley defeated Nia Jax to retain her NXT Women’s Championship. Watching the match, you heard the same chants that you saw in the Twitter video. The match itself wasn’t the match you saw with the two Bayley vs. Sasha Banks matches. But, the story was about being the underdog and facing her toughest test, which happened to be the dangerous newcomer. The crowd had this Shakespearean drama type of ride wondering if Bayley could go over. Once Nia lost via submission, the crowd went nuts for the Huggable One.

Last night’s match made Bayley as the mega star of NXT, as what she’s been doing for the past five months as the top female in the Women’s division! Her win over banks in Brooklyn was the start of it when those two had a five-star match that will go down as the match of 2015. I was one of those NXT patrons that attended the NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn show and watching those fans standing on their feet and going nuts for Bayley, who had overcome adversity. Two months later, Bayley and Banks did something that hasn’t been done in a decade, the chance to headline and main event a WWE Network special. The match was the 30-minute Ironwoman match, which could also be another match of 2015 candidate. The reason being was the story and the tears from Bayley’s super fan Izzy crying after Banks took her hairpiece and Banks crying after being defeated by her rival. It was a night that no one will forget. Balor is a great talent and is capable of main-eventing any NXT TakeOver special. However, he doesn’t have the aura that Bayley has. Don’t get me wrong the crowd always pops for Baylor. But Balor doesn’t get that higher pop that Bayley gets.

Balor is a great wrestler, but he doesn’t have that underdog story like Bayley does. Getting emotional is a big way to connect with a crowd, and it’s the reason Bayley has gotten over with the crowd. Until we see a monster heel come into NXT and become a threat to Balor, we won’t get the underdog story for Finn. As we head into 2016, Bayley is the mega star of NXT. She is winning her matches and gaining more followers. Months ago, Banks and Charlotte were the top headliners, but now that they’re on the main roster, Bayley is now on the top of the mountain and the face of women’s wrestling.
